Classic Tuna Sandwich
Ingredients (makes 2 sandwiches)
1 can (5 oz / ~140 g) tuna, drained (in water or oil)
2–3 tablespoons mayonnaise (to taste)
1 tablespoon finely chopped celery
1 tablespoon finely chopped onion or red onion
1 teaspoon lemon juice (optional but recommended)
Salt, to taste
Black pepper, to taste
4 slices bread (white, wheat, or sourdough)
Lettuce leaves (optional)
Tomato slices (optional)
Instructions
Prepare the tuna
Drain the tuna well and place it in a bowl.
Flake with a fork.
Mix the filling
Add mayonnaise, celery, onion, and lemon juice.
Season with salt and black pepper.
Mix until well combined and creamy (adjust mayo if needed).
Assemble the sandwich
Place lettuce on one slice of bread (optional).
Spoon tuna mixture evenly over the bread.
Add tomato slices if using.
Top with the second slice of bread.
Serve
Cut in half and serve immediately, or chill for 10 minutes for better flavor.
Optional Variations
Extra flavor: Add a little Dijon mustard or sweet relish
Healthier: Use Greek yogurt for half the mayo
Crunch: Add chopped pickles or cucumber
Melt: Add cheese and toast/grill the sandwich
