Apple Pie by Grandma Ople 🍏🥧

Ingredients:

  • 6 to 8 apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 package refrigerated pie crusts (2 crusts)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for egg wash)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Apples:
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, lemon juice, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and flour. Toss until the apples are evenly coated. Set aside to let the mixture sit for about 10 minutes.
  1. Preheat the Oven:
  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  1. Prepare the Pie Crust:
  • Roll out one pie crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie dish. Trim any excess crust hanging over the edges.
  1. Fill the Pie:
  • Pour the apple mixture into the prepared pie crust, spreading it evenly.
  • Dot the filling with small pieces of butter.
  1. Top the Pie:
  • Roll out the second pie crust and place it over the apple filling. You can either cut slits in the top crust for a lattice effect or simply cover it completely.
  • Trim and crimp the edges to seal the pie.
  1. Apply Egg Wash:
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and milk. Brush the mixture over the top crust to give it a golden color when baked.
  1. Bake the Pie:
  • Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes.
  • Reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for an additional 30-35 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown.
  1. Cool and Serve:
  • Allow the pie to cool for at least 2 hours before slicing. This helps the filling set up a bit more.
